Wanda Tonus

Public Health Inspector - Peterborough Public Health

Wanda's story :

How lucky am I to have been invited to join the PDot Book Club!

It is much more than just a book club, though. We are a tight group of friends, always ready for a laugh, or a dance, or to strike up a tune while washing the dishes together.

We support each other through all of life’s joys and challenges. Our members include authors, actors, and musicians — as well as amazing gourmet cooks, mothers, and grandmothers. No matter
where we come from though, or what we do, we’re all equals. This is a strong, resilient, and inspirational group of women.

What drew me to the group was the chance to explore different journeys through life, and to discuss them together, in order to understand others and ourselves. Like everyone else, I have been
shaped by my past, and that of my family. My grandparents, parents, and in-laws all came to this country after the war, in search of a better future for their families. Their stories of struggle and
sacrifice inspired me to persevere when times were tough, just as the PDot Book Club ladies inspire each other.

I hope to be an inspiration to my adult daughters as they continue their journeys, and face their own challenges. I hope they each find their own support networks that bring them joy and lift them up, and that they get the chance to support others in turn.
