Her Story

Ronda Dickie

Victorian Order of Nurses Peterborough-Victoria-Haliburton

Ronda's Story :

My family is the most important thing to me.  I have been married 35 years to a, now retired, Mountie.  Together we have a son, Jared, and daughter, Emma, and I am a step mother to his two daughters. My favourite thing is being a grandma to nine beautiful grandchildren.

I have had many conventional jobs throughout my life. I have also had unconventional jobs, such as printing press operator, school bus driver and volunteer fire fighter and MFR.
It wasn’t until I got into the health care field that I found what I truly loved and enjoyed.  I have been with the Assisted Living Services for over 8 years.  It is a home care branch of the VON that supports independent home life for seniors.  I have met many remarkable and inspiring seniors in my years with VON.  My years at Von have been incredibly rewarding. In 2014 I was honoured as the PSW of the year from the PSNO.

I take advantage of training that is available in my scope of practice.  To help fundraise, I have taken part in the inspirational Dragon Boat Races, and have participated in the VON fundraiser Trivia Night, where I enjoyed the goodhearted nature of competition.  To support VON, I contribute to the employee deduction program on each pay.

Recently I was given a promotion as Client Services Coordinator. I have been given the opportunity to assist in helping our team leads, and branch to other areas where the program is located.  I am grateful for the chance to learn and develop new skills, and experience the job I love in a new way.
