Maggie's Story :
Inspire definition ( thanks Siri)
“ Fill someone with the urge or ability to do or feel something , especially to do something creative “
Let me introduce myself. My name is Maggie Vanderbyl, I’m 30 years old and I grew up in Peterborough in a little war time house in the north end . I am married to my childhood sweetheart Jon and we have a beautiful miracle son named Landon who is 2.
I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude to be nominated as one of the Inspire Women of 2019. I have to say though, trying to write something about yourself and how you are inspiring to others isn’t easy ( haha) but I took my time to really think about what I have done in my life that could be inspiring to others and I came up with two reasons .
The first reason would be my business. I own Love Your Locks Hair Studio and I currently work out of my in-home salon 5 days a week. During wedding season I do mobile weddings for beautiful brides and their wedding parties . Since I was a little girl I KNEW that hair was my passion . I love making others feel beautiful and matching the outside of them to the sweet and kind people they are on the inside . I am so fortunate to have an amazing following of loyal clients who I adore . After working in a few salons around town I knew I was meant to be an entrepreneur. I am grateful for the opportunities I had with a few of the senior stylists I have learned from over the years. After many, many months of constantly thinking about making Love Your Locks a full time gig I finally took the leap. I couldn’t be happier with the decision I made. Love Your Locks has big things coming in the future and I can not wait! I hope following my passion inspires you all to do the same , there is no greater feeling then knowing you get to do what you love, each and every day, and call it “ work”.
The second reason I might be inspiring to others is how the miracle of our son came to be . Unfortunately it is not everyone’s reality to conceive a baby the “normal “ way . In my and my hubby’s case we had to move mountains to have our son. The heartbreak and devastation you go through when you find out you are unable to conceive a baby is unbearable. For anyone who has the unfortunate reality of this, my advice to you is, take your time to grieve, get mad, cry, even fall down on the floor if it helps BUT get back up , dust yourself off because you don’t belong on the floor. The saying ‘when life gives you lemons, make lemonade’ comes to mind and it’s very true in this case. After seeing a few specialists and our egg donor options not working out locally we decided it was time to explore other avenues. That’s when we found IVF Travelers. To make a long story short, we decided to go with a clinic in Zlin Czech Republic. Shortly after our return, we found out on October 29th at 10:34 am that we were EXPECTING! It was a long, hard road but our happy ending made everything more then worth it. June 30th, 2016 at 9:15pm our beautiful miracle baby boy was born, 11.2 lbs of awesome. I feel like our experience could be inspiring to anyone having to deal with infertility to never give up !
No matter how big or small your dream is, “go for it girl!”. Shoot for the stars , because your story or actions could inspire someone else to get creative, follow their dreams and most of all INSPIRE others to be the best that they can be!
