Her Story

Jennifer Brown

Senior Commercial Account Manager RBC

Jennifer's Story :

I am a Peterborough girl, born and raised and very much proud of that. I come from a wonderful family who provided and continues to provide so much love and support. We had a very good life growing up not lacking for much but I did learn from my parents that hard work and integrity is truly the key to success.

I was going to be a Veterinarian and that was that, I had it all figured out in grade seven. I even volunteered/worked at a local Veterinary clinic from age 10 to 21!   Well that was until my severe cat allergy took hold and my dream was dead.

Travel, that was what I was destined to do!

I completed my Travel Merchandising and Business courses at Sir Sanford Fleming College. I was going to fulfil my dream of travelling the world and book tours for others. At the same time I worked as a part-time bank teller at the local RBC.  My dream of travelling turned into sitting with my amazing clients helping them to afford their travel adventures. Banking was my path, not my planned path but that is where I was meant to be.  I love and thrive on helping others.  In my role as a commercial banker I am so passionate to help others realize their dreams. I have met some of my closest friends with the bank over the years. I have met some pretty amazing leaders and mentors in my career and I have learned that there is a difference between Being Nice and Being Kind.

Another learned phrase I absolutely love and refer to consistently is “There is no growth in the comfort zone and no comfort in the growth zone”. This phrase has caused me to push myself on countless occasions to embrace change and this has created exceptional opportunities for me personally and professionally. This phrase has helped me cope with generalized anxiety struggles also.

Lastly I will say for a girl who didn’t plan on having children-just two dogs, our son Lucas is the most amazing gift in life. My husband and I love seeing the world through his eyes. We are hockey and
lacrosse parents and love seeing the fundamentals of sport mold the person he is becoming through the incredible mentors in coaches he has. He can frustrate and challenge me but is also the love of my life, brings me so much happiness, peace, joy and laughter. There is no better gift in life than being a Mom.

You really can have it all-career, family and happiness!!
