Amanda NicholsPublic Educator – Peterborough Fire Services
I am just a Millbilly (Millbrook girl) that grew up following her dad around a fire station
Ever since I can remember, I have LOVED being at the fire station. I love the smells, the sounds, the people, the family, the job.
Like my Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather before me I wanted to be a part of something bigger and more special than me. I wanted to leave this world better than I found it. I wanted to make a difference. As cliché as this sounds, I wanted to save lives.
My dad used to tell me, “you know Amanda, you can’t save the world.” My response was always “but I can try”.
If I can inspire any person out there in this big world I would be winning at my goal. So instead of talking about me I want to share some of the people who have inspired me to a better me.
Inspiration is a beautiful phenomenon.
My parents inspired me to be the best version of me.
My brothers inspire me with their drive and success.
My best friend inspires me with strength, courage, love and determination.
My Chief inspires me with her drive, knowledge and commitment to life and safety.
My children inspire me with their love, support, and the humans they are growing into.
My 9 year old son Jack has the kindest heart with so much love this world. He is so determined, committed and thoughtful.
My 13 year old daughter Makayla is the most amazing young women I know. She is beautiful, brilliant and fearless.
I asked her to give me one word to describe me for this project.
She replied “Amazing”.
If my teenage daughter thinks I’m amazing, I am winning at life and I couldn’t be happier.
