Her Story

Grace Murphy

Grace's Story :

Hi! My name is Grace Murphy and I am 15 years old.

I am an athlete and have played competitive hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and have run competitively throughout my life. Currently, I play soccer for FC Durham at the Ontario Provincial Development Level (OPDL) and have competed, provincially and nationally, as a member of the Kawartha Lakes Lightning Running Club.

In 2019, I placed first at COSSA and 10th at OFSAA for cross-country running. Nationally, as a 14-year-old competitor, I placed 19th in the Canadian U18 XC Category. In my first year of high
school, I ran cross-country, played varsity field hockey, varsity ice-hockey, and participated in nordic ski. I qualified for OFSAA in three of these sports prior to the coronavirus suspending
high school sports.

I have always enjoyed the thrill that comes with playing these sports as well as the environment of driven people just like me who motivate me to reach for my goals. These activities allow me to focus on one single objective at a time rather than the constant whir which exists in my mind. I am very academically driven as well and despite all that I strive to learn I find it very hard to be satisfied with limited information. I am continuously thinking and reviewing information.

I’m passionate about giving back to the community. I have volunteered at Royal Gardens Retirement Residence, the YMCA Summer Camp, the U20 Women’s Field Lacrosse World Championships, the Peterborough Riverview Park and Zoo, the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, and many other places and events.

I have big dreams for the future that can only be defined in one way: I want to explore the mysteries of Science and inspire others to be curious and aim to satisfy their curiosities and ambitions. I want others to know that new information is always out there waiting for us to find it! I hope to someday inspire young people and especially young girls to find their passion and make their dreams a reality!

It doesn’t take a genius to make a difference. Discovery only takes a spark of curiosity and a passion to foster the flame!
