      Brittany’s Story:

I describe  myself as an HIV Positive Mother, Wife,  LGTBQ* Ally, Intactivist and Human Rights Activist.

In addition to being a loving mother to three children,  I am  in a committed long term relationship with my partner who is HIV Negative.

I came to Peterborough in November of 2005 to escape the streets, sex work and my addiction.

I was 5 months pregnant and looking to start a new life for me and the life growing inside of me.

In March of 2006 at 36 weeks pregnant I was diagnosed with HIV.

It was in 2012 I decided it was time to get involved and make a difference.

I returned to school full time at Sir Sanford Fleming College in the Social Service Work Program; in 2014; and I graduated with honors.

You may know me from here role at PARN – Your Community AIDS Resource Network as Peer Engagement Worker.

In that role I work  with people living with, affected by and at risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted blood borne infections in order to assist them as they build their skills and capacity to facilitate programs, while also creating events and conferences in order to educate and strengthen the community.

I regularly implement  the leadership skills learned through various provincial programs into practice to support others who were driven to be engaged in PARN programs.

In addition to my  work at PARN,  I own my own home based Scentsy business and is always willing to engage, give back and support community where needed.

Being a part of our community, making connections and making change, are all factors that inspire and drive me.

In my free time I like to Facebook, listen to music, shop and be artistic!
