Anne’s Words: Courageous Compassionate Giving
Anne’s Story :
I have always believed in giving more than you receive and have always given back to my community. I was raised to always be kind to others and to go one step more when helping a friend.
Just over a year and a half ago I lost the love of my life, my husband Gord. We had been together since we were 16 and less than 6 months after that I lost my sister Cathy. When it came time for people to give back to me I found it very hard to accept their kindness, I still do.
I work part-time at YWCA Peterborough Haliburton, a cause very near and dear to my heart. The YWCA supports women and children that have had the courage to leave an abusive relationship. I am the cousin of 2 women that lost their lives to their abusive partners.
I also work part-time for my son-in-law in his business, Kangas Equipment Repair. Both places accept
me for me, the me that I am now. Most times there is laughter but they are also good with the tears.
I have volunteered for many organizations over the years such as Bras Around the Building, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, Pink in the Rink, Easter Seals, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the MS Society, Dragon Boat and Hospice Peterborough. Hospice is now giving back to me, I participate in one of their grief groups. I have made many friends giving back.
I have 3 great kids and 10 grandchildren, 5 of each.
My favourite colour is purple. I love dragonflies, sunrises, sunsets, the ocean and watching my
I love to connect people, it is something I enjoy.
We only have one chance on this earth, make the most of it!
